Wow! What a great first day! The kids worked really hard learning new names, routines, and procedures. We also wrote, drew pictures, and even ate tigers, giraffes, and elephants! (Ask your child to tell you about that!) We will continue to get to know one another better for the next few weeks as we learn first grade procedures and expectations. Our learning safari is off to a wonderful start! Stay tuned! Getting Ready! 08/06/2009
Ready or not, it's almost that time of year! I have had such a wonderfully relaxing summer! I hope you have enjoyed some special times with your family too! Now is the time to begin preparing for the new school year. After the lazy days of summer, the transition to a new school year can sometimes be difficult! One of the BIGGEST things you can do to prepare is to begin changing your child's sleep schedule! Everyone is different, but researchers say that young children should get 10 to 11 hours of sleep a night! So it's time to push that bedtime back and begin working your child into his/her school sleep schedule. I attended a fascinating conference on the brain earlier this week. I can't wait to share some of the information I learned with you. This workshop has convinced me to make some changes in my own life so that my brain will function better! For now, let me share the most important NEWS for healthy brains! Using the acronym NEWS, the following things are important for brains: nutrition, exercise, water, and sleep! These are important for children and adults! You can find a little more food for thought by using the following link to the scholastic parent newsletter. Here you will find several great back to school articles. http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=1306 |
